Small Craft On A Milk Sea

I just got the new Brian Eno album titled, "Small Craft On A Milk Sea." The collectors box set includes, two cd's, two heavy weight LP's, and a lithograph, all housed nicely inside a large slip case. Although the packaging is very attractive, the music is superb. If your a fan of Ambient music (Eno being the father of ambient music) you'll love this album. It is recorded really well and has elements of "Nerve Net" as well as some of Eno's more esoteric sounding ambient albums. Jon Hopkins and Leo Abrahams all contributed to the sound.

New Cover Art!

Few weeks ago I noticed the above illustration in the New York Times and fell in love with it. I contacted the artist, Brendan Monroe and he gave me permission to use it as the cover art for my next album. You can check out some of his other stuff at http://www.brendanmonroe.com/.

This particular piece is Titled Gravity (I think?) although Mr. Monroe seems to do a lot mixed media stuff. The illustration fits perfect with the motif of my next album, which will probably be named Nebulous (note that it is not Nebula's). Anyway, comments and suggestions are welcome.

I really don't have any followers right now, so it's like a tree who fell the in forest. However, I continue to post because well one day someone might trip over the tree.

Screaming Penance

Here is an excerpt from my book, "Screaming Penance, A collection of Lyrics and Short Anecdotes."

This particular poem is called, "Repent, Woman, Repent," which I wrote in my early twenties. I particularly like this poem because it has a rhythmic feel while you read it. I like the idea of being able to comprehend and feel rhythmically a written work, so that your unconscious or autonomic self can experience it. You can learn more about the book on Amazon.com.

Repent, Women, Repent

In Some Multicolored Sunset

Where Your Eyes Meet The Moon
Heaven And Earth Collide.
And In Some Rising Rhythmic Tide
Around Your Golden Thighs

Up The Shore

Till God Says No More.

Repent, Woman, Repent
In The Light Of The Moon.

Arz Noir

Who is Arz Noir? Well it's me. A musician who lives in Miami, Florida and records music under the name Arz Noir, although my real name is Michael Menendez. I currently have a few albums on Itunes and Amazon.com and I invite everyone to give a listen and post comments or feedback. I decided to do a blog rather than a website because it's cheaper and easier for me to share information. From time to time, I will update information about my upcoming projects, successes and failures. You can also check me out on myspace.com/arznoir. If you like to be on my mailing list please send an email to mm6636@hotmail.com

Currently, My new album is, "The Legend of Loup-Garou," published through BMI and available on Itunes and through Amazon under my record label, Arz Nova Records. Right now, the album is available only on CD and download, although I imagine a vinyl release sometime in the near future. This recent release is an electronic instrumental concept album. I was inspired by the works of Brian Eno and his idea to make Soundtracks or ambient music for a given space. For example, one of Eno's albums is titled, Music for airports, in which he conceptually designed ambient music to fill the space or environment of a given airport.

In my case, "The Legend of Loup-Garou," is a fictional movie about a werewolf that has caused some trouble in a small southern French town in the early 1890's. The town's elders call upon and hire a notorious Werewolf Hunter named, The German who has a grim appearance and a clubbed left hand. To make a long story short, the German succeeds in destroying the Werewolf. However, why is he so successful? Could it be that he is also a Werewolf?

The soundtrack takes you through the major scenes of this fictional movie and allows the listener to fill in the blanks with their own version of the movie.
